UPDATE ON LUCIUS CALDERON POLICE SHOOTING DEATH
2 hours ago
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has issued a formal update regarding the death of Lucius Calderon, asserting that a recent autopsy has cleared a police-involved shooting as the cause of his demise.
While the medical findings suggest natural causes, internal investigations into the circumstances surrounding his arrest and subsequent detention remain active.
The incident began on December 31, 2025 in Marchand Castries, when Calderon sustained a gunshot wound to the right thigh during a police intervention.
Following his arrest, he was treated at a medical facility and discharged into police custody the following day.
However, four days later, while being held at the Marchand police station, Calderon’s health deteriorated rapidly. He was rushed back to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police say according to a post-mortem examination, the cause of death was attributed to multiple pre-existing health complications.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Luke DeFreitas addressed the findings during the Thursday morning press briefing, confirming that the department is maintaining a dialogue with the Calderon family.
