“Yuh Go Love Dis” - Carnival 2026 Theme Promises Joy, Unity, And Cultural Pride
The Chairman of the National Carnival Commission, Peter Kanhai, says the 2026 Carnival celebration is going to live up to its reputation as the ‘Greatest Show on Earth.’
The launch of Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival 2026 brought the festival to the people at the Brian Lara Promenade in downtown Port of Spain on Friday.
Speaking to TTT News, Mr. Kanhai said the theme ‘Yuh Go Love Dis’ will focus on showcasing the best of what Trinidad and Tobago has to offer. He wants the nation to know that while the launch may be taking place in the capital city, the NCC will be visiting other areas to bring the ‘Yuh Go Love Dis’ spirit to all.
« The NCC took a decision that we will bring the Carnival to the people, which is what we’re doing here today. And we are starting here, but as we go through the years ahead, we will take this across the country. Well, remember, Carnival is not just Port of Spain — there is regional Carnival that takes place all over Trinidad and Tobago, and the NCC is responsible for all of that. »
Addressing the nation at the official launch, Minister of Culture and Community Development, Michelle Benjamin, shared her heartfelt appreciation for Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival.
When asked what she cherishes most about Carnival, she said it is the power to foster unity, bringing together people of every creed, race, and social background in a shared spirit of joy and cultural pride.
« Myself and the Board met, the CEO and the decision to bring it, as you said, the heart of the city, the heart of the people, the Carnival is our identity and we thought it best to bring it to the people. So, while you’re on your way to work, you getting the vibes. »
The Minister also highlighted the diverse expertise of those involved in planning Carnival 2026, noting the Chairman of the National Carnival Commission, Peter Kanhai’s, deep roots in steelpan, and various other members of the Board’s strong connections to soca and chutney music.
As for her own contribution, she shared where her heart lies in the vibrant world of the festival.
« The Minister has a love for what the Carnival, the mas, you see the regional carnival where you get to sprinkle the love of Carnival throughout the entire country, and the J’ouvert, the wire bending, I does play J’ouvert, I does make my mas, and cut up my little t-shirt. »
