Barbados has put forward the case of small island developing states before an international health meeting on the pandemic accord on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response as it made a plea for access to not only information but vaccinations. The new pact and a series of updates to existing rules on dealing with pandemics are intended to shore up the world's defences against new pathogens after the COVID-19 pandemic. Member states of the World Health Organisation continued their discussions towards that accord with a view to presenting the outcome of their work to the World Health Assembly in May of this year. Chief Medical Officer, Dr. the Most Honourable Kenneth George doesn't want SIDS left out. Director General of the WHO, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus meanwhile, warned countries risk missing a May deadline for agreeing on a legally binding treaty on fighting pandemics. This he notes would would be a big blow for future generations.
