Canada wildfires: Be ready "for anything" after telecom lines damaged by flames, official

Thousands were impacted last weekend after wildfires in western Canada damaged the lines of a major telecom in the area, leaving people without internet, network access on cell phones, or long-distance calling even as some in northern B.C. were facing down a raging wildfire. It led to emergency services in the Yukon resorting to radio communication and word of mouth to get information out, but also had telecoms looking once more at how to better prevent issues like this from happening.
