Motion to push counties to clear bills to be tabled

The fate of governors running counties with pending bills is now at the hands of senators who will either vote in support of a motion that seeks to make it mandatory to pay pending bills as first charge in a financial year failure to which will lead to withholding of subsequent budget releases. According to a motion tabled by senate minority whip Ledama Ole Kina, verified pending bills below 1 billion kenya shillings should be paid before the end of this fiscal year ending june and above 1 billion before the end of the next fiscal year 2024/2025. The outstanding 156 billion kenya shillings pending bills has created fiscal inadequacies, with supply companies brought to their knees owing to the arrears.
