Judges Swearing-in Ceremony for the Michaelmas Term || September 14, 2026
His Excellency the Most Honourable Sir Patrick Allen, ON, GCMG, CD, KSt.J, Governor-General of Jamaica, will host the Swearing-in Ceremony for Judges for the Michaelmas Term on Monday, September 14, 2026.
The ceremony will take place at 9:00 a.m. in the Ballroom at King’s House.
The swearing-in ceremony marks an important occasion in Jamaica’s justice system, as members of the Judiciary formally assume their respective judicial responsibilities. During such ceremonies, judges take the Oath of Allegiance and the Judicial Oath, affirming their commitment to uphold the law, administer justice fairly and discharge their responsibilities with integrity.
The Michaelmas Term is one of the established terms of Jamaica’s judicial calendar. Recent judicial practice identifies the Michaelmas Term of the Circuit Courts as running from September 16 to December 19.
The Governor-General has previously emphasised that judicial appointments carry the weight of public trust and responsibility, with judges expected to uphold constitutional values, independence, integrity and access to justice.
The event forms part of the ongoing work of Jamaica’s Judiciary to strengthen the administration of justice and improve the efficiency and delivery of court services. The Supreme Court of Jamaica identifies its vision as “a world-class judiciary utilizing innovation and technology for efficient service delivery.”
