Survivor gallery unveiled in Arkansas: Celebrating women who defeated heart disease

The American Heart Association (AHA) of Central Arkansas unveiled its Survivor Gallery at the state capitol on Wednesday as part of the "Go Red for Women" movement. The Survivor Gallery features the stories of eight local women who are survivors of heart disease and stroke. "I was born with pulmonary stenosis, that is a congenital heart disease, and I had to have open heart surgery when I was 8 years old, but that did not stop me." said Dr. Latoya Geter-Mcelroy, one of the women featured in the Survivor Gallery. Geter-Mcelroy still lives with mild stenosis and gets a heart check-up every year.
