Trillions of cicadas start to emerge across US, some so loud residents are calling police

Two broods of cicadas are simultaneously emerging this summer in a rare event, with trillions of the bugs coming out of the ground across the southeastern U.S. Some are so loud, that some residents have called the police. But, they aren't here to stay long, and they aren't going to eat your plants. "I often joke, it's kind of the world's darkest Mardi Gras because it's just a bunch of singing and other things and then dying," Extension entomologist Jonathan L.
